Dawlish United U-9 Match Report – Newton Poppleford Friendly Tournament 2010
Date: Saturday 28 August 2010
Location: Newton Poppleford Devon, Devon
An early start ensured the Under 9’s and some of their parents were ready for the tournament of friendlies in Newton Poppleford on Saturday morning. The first game against Central was yet another tentative start by the boys in black and yellow and they were lucky to end the first half without a goal from either team. Central started the second half strongly and scored the winning goal as well as hitting the crossbar twice.
The second game against Sidmouth Warriors was much the same for Dawish with Sidmouth managing to score 2 lucky goals. They then went on to score a third late in the game. The third consecutive game for Dawlish against Hemyock was a much improved and there were plenty of goals. Three quick goals in the first half scored by Jamie Davenport, Max Davies and Flynn Bowler gave the parents something to cheer for. The second half brought 3 more goals for Dawlish, all scored by Jack (Jacko) Winsborrow. Dawlish won their third match with a 6-0 win and much cheering from their supporters, especially the mothers.
With just enough time for a quick drink, Dawlish were on the field again to face Sidmouth Raiders. A combination of tired legs mixed with the enduring support from the coaches and parents ensured Dawlish came away with a well deserved 1-1 draw thanks to Thomas Hatherley.
After a well deserved break, some refreshment and a little skills practice off the pitch, Dawlish were up against Broadclyst in their fifth and final friendly of the tournament. There was lots of pressure from the Dawlish boys and some inspired goal keeping from Bernard Bretagne, one of the newest team members. There were some chances for Dawlish as well as Broadclyst, but the game finished 0-0. These 5 games were good practice for Dawlish who are looking forward to the forthcoming league season.
